English Grammar 109 – Question Words

These words are used to introduce questions:

who (for people)
what (for things)
how (for manner)
where (for place)
when (for time)
whose (for possession)
which (for specifying)
why (for reasons
how long (for quantity of time)
how far = (for distance=
how much = (for uncountable quantities)
how many = (for countable quantities)

These question words are used at the beginning of a question, followed by the verb:

Who is your teacher?
How long is the lesson?
Where do you live?
Why is she late?
What do you think?
When does the film start?
Whose is this book?
Which bag do you like?
How much is it?
How many students are there?
